Mardi Gras is super early this year (February 16th) and is right around the corner!! Full disclosure- I’m not a huge Mardi Gras fan. I don’t know why, but I never really have been!! I don’t like the parade crowds, the noise, the traffic, and I don’t even really love king cake (I KNOW I’m in the minority though and WOW I sound like a scrooge). BUT, celebrating Mardi Gras is just a part of being from New Orleans, so I’ll typically try to rally for a parade or two every year. AND there are some things I do love about Mardi Gras (like the decorations, the days off of work, and the excuse to get out of town)!!!
This year, parades are cancelled due to COVID, so things this season are going to be looking a lot different. However, NOLA won’t let anything dampen the Mardi Gras spirit!! King cakes are already being sold everywhere, Mardi Gras decor is up, and people are still excited for the season.
I know a lot of y’all aren’t from the New Orleans area, but for those of you who are, I thought I would round up some of my favorite Mardi Gras picks for this year!! Even if you aren’t from here, I thought it may be fun for you to bake a king cake or two and celebrate from afar lol.
